From a Distance
A poem in memory of my beautiful Nan <3
I always pictured you at my wedding, wearing a fancy hat – an ugly fancy hat like you did at my mum’s. I imagined another family holiday, one you’d insist on paying for, because generosity was your way. I saw you trying more new things: archery with your sister, Japanese food with me and Gramp. I pictured you showing off my first book, my graduation photo, my first house — to all of your friends with pride. And though you’ll guide me from a distance, shaking your head at each silly decision, still listening, still near. You’ve shaped me into who I am today. I’ll be forever grateful for everything you gave.
This one is a little more personal, a little poem in memory of my beautiful Nan, who we sadly lost this September. I love you, Nanna <3
